For a first trip, Meghalaya (living root bridges, waterfalls, Dawki) and Assam (Kaziranga’s rhinos, Majuli) are the easiest and most rewarding — and they pair perfectly. From there, Arunachal’s Tawang and Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival are wonderful next steps.
Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura need no special permit for Indian nationals. Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur require an Inner Line Permit (ILP), which we arrange for you. Foreign nationals have separate rules we’ll guide you on.
October to April suits most of the region — clear skies and pleasant weather. December brings Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival; March–October opens Arunachal’s high passes; and the monsoon turns Meghalaya spectacularly green.
